Core-to-Core/Leverhulme Trust Joint Workshop, Novosibirsk 2016, “Organic Electronics of Highly-Correlated Molecular Systems”, was held at National Research University-Novosibirsk State University & Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry in Novosibirsk, Russia on 28-30 Sept. 2016. Both buildings are located on Akademgorodok in the suburb of Novosibirsk, so we had no choice but to concentrate on the meeting. This workshop is the fifth meeting of this core-to-core program, which is co-supported by Leverhulme Trust, following the previous ones held in London (2013), Otaru (2014), Moscow (2015), and St. Andrews (2016). This time, Russian core members, Professors Zibarev and Rakitin organized the conference place and program, and ca. 30 people attended this workshop.

In the beginning of this workshop (Day 1), Professors Rakitin and Zibarev had opening remarks, and Prof. Awaga talked on an outline of this Core-to-Core program and a research presentation. Then, 19 oral presentations were given by core members, and their young researchers and students for two days. Russian members talked about spin crossover complexes, nonlinear optical effects, and organic dyes for high efficient organic dye sensitized solar cells as well as syntheses and fundamental physical properties of thiazyl radicals. Japanese groups reported various research topics such as organic polymers, battery performances of metal organic frameworks, and molecular rotors using supramolecular systems, as well as physical properties of highly-correlated organic radicals and organic spintronics/electronics, which are main topics of this core-to-core program. In the end of Day1, free discussions on organic electronics, in which Professors Awaga, Yoshikawa, and Ivanov (Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry) participated as panelists, were done. At night, the banquet was held in the hotel restaurant close to the institute, and we enjoyed Russian foods, vodka, and wines with pleasant talks. Finally, Profs. Zibarev and Rakitin gave closing remarks in the end of Day 2. On Day 3, all of attendees discussed their future research plans and collaboration.

During this workshop, it’s a nice weather in Novosibirsk like the late autumn in Japan, and Japanese participants who came from still humid Japan, felt so fine and they thought that they’d like to visit Novosibirsk many times. Members’ photographs were taken in front of institute buildings in lunch time of Day 1 & 2. The next annual workshop of this program will be held in Canada on May 2017, and the final meeting will be held on November in Nagoya.

Core-to-Core/Leverhulme Trust 5th Joint Workshopが、2016年9月28～30日の日程で、ノボシビルスクにあるノボシビルスク大学およびノボシビルスク有機化学研究所にて開催されました。本ワークショップは、ロンドン、モスクワ、セントアンドリューズに続く本Core-to-Coreプログラムの第5回目の会議で、Leverhulme Trustとの共催により行われました。両会場ともノボシビルスク中心街から離れたアカデムゴロドクに立地し、特にノボシビルスク大学の建物は昨年竣工されたばかりとあって、非常に素晴らしい環境の中、会議に集中できました。今回は、ロシア側のコアメンバーであるZibarev教授、Rakitin教授らが中心となって、会場やプログラムがアレンジされ、当日はロシア及び日本のコアメンバーとその研究室に所属する若手研究者および学生ら約30名が参加しました。

まず、初日の最初に、Rakitin教授とZibarev教授より開会の辞があり、引き続き本プログラムのリーダーである名大の阿波賀教授より本プログラムの説明と研究発表が行われました。その後、コアメンバーとその研究室の若手研究者および学生を中心に19件の口頭発表が二日間にわたって行われました。ロシアのグループからは、チアジルラジカルの合成と物性だけではなく、スピンクロスオーバー錯体や非線形光学効果、高効率な色素増感型太陽電池に向けた有機色素の開発などに関する発表が行われました。日本のグループからは、本プログラムの中心的課題である強相関有機ラジカルの物性や有機スピン/エレクトロニクスに関する発表がなされるとともに、環状有機高分子の合成、超分子化学を利用した分子ローター、金属有機構造体を用いた二次電池の開発など、非常に多様な研究内容が報告されました。一日目の最後には、有機エレクトロニクスに関する討論が、阿波賀教授、吉川准教授、Ivanov教授（イルクーツク化学研究所）をパネリストに行われ、有機エレクトロニクスの今後の在り方について活発な議論が展開されました。また、滞在したホテルのレストランにて懇親会が催され、ロシア料理とウォッカやワインに舌鼓を打つとともに、歓談を楽しみました。二日目の最後に、本会議の主催者であるZibarev教授、Rakitin教授から閉会の挨拶があり、会議は終了しました。なお、三日目は、二日間の講演を基に今後の研究内容について打ち合わせました。

滞在中のノボシビルスクの天候は、日本で言うと晩秋にあたるようなもので、まだ蒸し暑い日本から訪問したメンバーは非常に快適に過ごすことができ、何度も訪問したいと思えるほどでした。全体集合写真は、一日目および二日目の昼食時に会議の行われた建物前で撮影されたものです。来年度の年次会議は2017年5月末にカナダで、また本プログラムの最終報告会が2017年11月ごろに名古屋で開催される予定です。
