The International Conference on Coordination Chemistry (ICCC), which is held nearly every two years, is a conference with a long and distinguished history as it is continued over a half of century. This year, the 41st ICCC was held on 21-25 July in Singapore. Since Professor Andy Hor (National University of Singapore) is an executive committee chairman, there were many presentations related to oraganometallics and metal complex catalysts, compared with the previous ICCCs. In this conference series, many world famous researchers usually give invited talks. This time, Professor Jeffrey Long (University of California, Berkley) had a plenary lecture on the recent trend of carbon dioxide adsorption metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Although it was scheduled in the early morning of the first day, there were many audiences. From Japan, Professor Hiroshi Nishihara (the University of Tokyo) talked on two-dimensional nanosheets of dithiolene complexes as the Dalton Transactions Lecture, and Professor Makoto Fujita (the University of Tokyo) did a crystal sponge method. Additionally, young researchers also did many oral talks, which indicates that this field is energetic. Among CtC members, Dr. Noro gave an oral talk, and Drs. Yoshikawa and Zhang did poster presentations. As well as our own presentations, we discussed and deeply understood our research topics each other, since we cannot often meet together in Japan. As a result, this conference participation became very fruitful.
配位化学全般を主題とするICCCは、半世紀以上にわたり、ほぼ二年に一度開催されてきた由緒ある国際会議です。41回目となる今年はシンガポールで7月21日から25日の日程で開催されました。シンガポール国立大学のAndy Hor教授が実行委員長であることから、従来のICCCよりも有機金属化学や金属錯体触媒の分野からの発表が多い印象を受けました。ICCCでは例年、各分野の世界的権威が講演をしますが、今回はMOFの二酸化炭素吸着で先端を走るJeffrey Long教授（カリフォルニア大学バークレー校）がプレナリーレクチャーでその最新動向を発表し、会場は朝一にもかかわらず非常に盛況でした。日本からも西原寛教授（東京大学）がDalton Transactions Lectureとしてジチオレン錯体を用いた２次元シートに関する講演を、藤田誠教授（東京大学）が結晶スポンジ法に関する講演をされるなど、非常にトピカルで興味深いお話を数多く聞くことができました。一方で、多くの若手研究者による口頭講演も多数あり、配位化学分野の勢いを感じることができました。CtCメンバーからは北大の野呂が口頭講演を、名大の吉川、張がポスター発表をしました。自身の発表以外にも、野呂、吉川はお互いの研究に関する議論を行うなど、普段はあまり会うことができない国内メンバーがこのような国際会議の機会を活かして、研究に関する理解を深めることができたという点でも、非常に充実したものでした。
